Always tough when a season comes to an end, but even tougher this year. The guys finished 4-1 over the last 3 weeks of the season and it was really fun. You can tell they are really getting it and are comfortable in their roles. It has been so much fun watching them get on this roll that I wish it didn't have to stop.
However, I have a good feeling that the taste of the last 3 weeks will continue through the off season and they will all work harder than they ever have before. I think for the first time since I've been here that the team actually sees the vision I've been talking to them about. I think they can finally see what kind of team and program they can become.
Definitely going to be exciting to see what happens over the off season and what kind of team shows up in October. With everyone back, plus a solid recruiting class, I really do believe good things are on the horizon for this team!
In wrapping up the year, our Big Fella, Dave Palmer, walked away with Co-Player on the Year honors and will be considered for All-District and All-American Teams. So congrats to the Big Fella for having a great year that included finishing 4th in the nation in rebounding and 9th in double-doubles. No question he should be the school's all-time leading rebounder by this time next year. Definitely looking forward to seeing him back for another year!
However, that was our only selection to the All-Conference team and hopefully that motivates the guys. The team that won our conference placed 5 players on there. So they understand that if the team reaches their goals that individual goals will also follow. Would be nice to place a bunch of guys on that list after we win a championship : )
To our guys......enjoy your Spring Break as it starts tomorrow! Always good to get a break from school and hopefully it gets everyone re-charged to come back and finish strong on the academic side of things also. Obviously Coach Strick is expecting it!! haha
